PermaLinkDell Mini 9 - LOVING this little Ubuntu netbook
posted Tuesday 3rd, March 2009

I've posted a few pics on Flickr ...showing mainly the quick 6 setup screens. Notes 8.5 screams on this little guy. I don't know if it's the 2GB of RAM or the solid state drive, but it's definitely the fastest I've seen Notes 8.5 run. Really the only thing I don't like (and this does really bother me) is that the apostrophe key is down on the bottom row ...2nd key to the right of the spacebar. OK, they just weren't trying on that placement. C'mon! ...I have no idea HOW many times in the past week I've been typing and have hit the Enter key instead of the apostrophe.

Since I'm a little guy with little-girl-size fingers, the keyboard feels just fine to me. And no problem at ALL for the apps. Of course, I've been playing with Ubuntu for a while. But NOW, this IS my main home machine. And I'm totally digging it :)

Ahh ... the apostrophe.

Perhaps the Darwinistic consequence of netbooks will be that the apostrophe is removed from the languages of the world altogether? It doesn't work in URLs anyway.

Told ya that apostrophe key would drive you crazy! Other than that it's a damn fine little machine -- I've even heard it runs OSX with minor tweaking.

Tried to order in the Netherlands: no Ubuntu... How sad and misguided.

And on all netbooks only 1gb, no options on drives... Weird.

@Lars O: Sadly, I use the apostrophe quite a bit. Haven't decided yet if i'll try remapping some keys.

@mdmadph: Yes, you were right :)

@Lars B: The ordering options for Netherlands are surprising! I would not have ordered if I'd been limited to 1GB ...I *have* read of folks ordering with the small drive and then replacing the drive later.
